We enjoy watching other physical media fans shopping haul videos on YouTube. The excitement on the YouTuber’s face when they find that great movie deal is priceless. True movie fans appreciate and celebrate another movie fan’s shopping hunt. However, we are perplexed as to why so much emphasis is placed on slipcovers.

There are some die hard movie fans and YouTubers who will not buy a movie without a slipcover. We don’t understand what’s the big deal with slipcovers. We appreciate creative art, but our priorities are different for our movie library. No judgement of people who prefer slipcovers. To each its own. We are just saying (for us) nothing tickles or gets moist because a slipcover is included with the purchase.

First, we don’t display our movies in a library or Block Busters store format on shelves. Our movies are neatly stored in alphabetical order in drawers that match our modern mouse home theater interior design. We organize our movie library in a compact way that allows us to have a large physical media collection without worrying about shelf space. We can keep more physical media in a drawer than we can on a shelf in the original packaging.

Second, we remove the inside art cover and the disc. When we switched from the plastic storage cases to our custom made movie packaging, we tossed hundreds of slipcovers in the garbage without a second thought. Yes, that’s right the slipcover is tossed in the garbage. We never saw the value in holding on to them. The inside cover and the disc(s) are then placed in a flatter custom packaging that allows us to save so much space. We then organize them in a drawer alphabetically.

Third, slip covers add extra costs to a physical media purchase. When we order movies online or purchase in-store, we do so based on price. Whether a slipcover is included or not doesn’t matter. We get all the information we need about the movie from the backside cover. If we can purchase a 4K, 3D, or Blu-ray cheaper without a slipcover we will purchase the cheaper version.

Fourth and most importantly, WE CANNOT WATCH A SLIPCOVER. The only thing we care about is does the 4K/3D/Blu-ray/DVD play. If it does play, we consider it a good purchase. Summit Entertainment could have put John Wick 3 inside a brown paper lunch bag and we still would have paid the same price without artwork. We know John Wick has “guns lots of guns.” We want to see him use them in a motion film not see him hold them on a slipcover. Wick reloading a shot gun with extreme quickness and then double tapping makes it tickle and gets it very moist.

Fifth, custom or exclusive artwork, steelbooks, digibooks, or special inserts do nothing for us. It is all about the movie. Packaging means nothing to us. The presence or absence of a slipcover or any other artwork has never been a factor in our movie purchasing decisions.

We recently learned we could sale our slipcovers on e-bay. We are NOT about that eBay life. All the slipcovers from our October – December purchases will be given to a fellow home theater fan who appreciates the slip. Just because we don’t appreciate the allure of slipcovers doesn’t mean we can’t share our blessing with a fellow movie fan that does. It is a small gesture that might create tickle/moistness or tickle/stiffness for another movie fan. We are down with giving freely what we don’t use.
