A Reel Cinema At Home is about that G-E-E-K life. Anyone can invite friends over, sign into Disney Plus, and hold a marathon. A basic marathon will not do. It just won’t do!
This will be an epic 3D marathon whenever possible. Why? Because we love 3D movies. A Reel Cinema At Home is of the opinion all movies should be in 3D. The 3D technology is what makes our watch party unique. Not every Marvel film has a 3D version. We own the ones that do.
Black Widow kicks off phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Our epic marathon will feature 24 Marvel films, 5 one-shot short films, 24 meals/desserts, 24 drinks, and 8 Avenger themed pajamas.
We share all the details below so you can plan your own epic marathon with your adult friends and family.
In 2019, retail movie theaters across the United Stated hosted 22-movie marathons when Endgame was released. It was no surprise to A Reel Cinema At Home that movie goers like the Rolling Stones reporter, Charles Homes, attempted to watch this marathon in a retail theater then HATED the experience.
Mr. Holmes article “I Tried Watching 22 Marvel Movies in 1 Theater for 3 Days and Went Insane” is a must read for Marvel Movie fans. According to Mr. Holmes “It didn’t go well!” Mr. Holmes reported he went insane as the body funk, bad food, clapping every minute, filthy bathrooms, and wine that tasted like despair experience become unbearable.
Mr. Holmes described some funny moments and the article is very entertaining. Mr. Homes did not make it through the entire series without leaving the theater. Before the second Avengers movie started, Mr. Holmes was done with the horrible retail experience of a 22-movie marathon. He needed a break from the funk, filthy bathrooms, and wine of despair. Mr. Holmes reports, “He traveled all the way home to take a good shit and weep in private.”
As you can tell, we really enjoyed Mr. Holmes’ article. We will use Mr. Holmes’ negative experience as inspiration to improve our home theater marathon experience. We can and will do better!

A Reel Cinema At Home’s epic 3D movie marathon starts on Friday, April 30, 2021. Just-in-time for Black Widow’s release Friday, May 7, 2021.
Watching all 24 Marvel movies and 5 One-Shot shorts films back-to-back and non-stop is out of the question. We are geeks but we still have responsibilities. We are extremely realistic in our planning. A straight 64+ hour marathon would be an immediate failure.
Our plan is to watch three movies per day for eight days straight. We scheduled breaks in between movies to address business issues, to use the bathroom, to bathe, to take naps, to go outside, to run to the store, to prepare meals, to wash dishes, etc. Life happens!
Our watch times are 9:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 7:00 PM each day. Honestly, we can start the movies whenever we want to. This allows flexibility to modify our schedule as we deem fit.
A Reel Cinema At Home loves 3D movie technology. If we had our way, EVERY action movie would have a 3D release. In the United States, 3D technology is dead. We are unable to purchase new movies in 3D state side. However, 3D technology and movies are still alive, well, and very popular in the UK. We have imported all the movies we need from the UK to host our epic 3D Marvel movie marathon watch party.

We live on a “Beer Pockets and Champagne Dreams” budget. We are attempting to limit our spending to $425.00 USD for all the liquor, food, decorations, and pajama fabric materials. As we make purchases, we will update our budget accordingly. We want to show how much money we spent. Our rough estimates are: $50 liquor, $200 food, $100 decorations, and $75 fabric materials.
Let’s face it our home theater is always clean. However, prior to the event we will give our home theater and theater bathroom a deep cleaning before installing our decorations. The year 2020 has increased our OCD. We use Lysol All-Purpose Cleaner to ensure all hard surfaces are clean and sanitized.
We ensure everything is cleaned before and after each home theater movie marathon. We never go to sleep without cleaning our home theater and washing our dishes after each day. Cleaning immediately after ensures our home theater is ready for the next day.
Our home theater and bathroom will drip in red, black, and silver decorations in honor of Black Widow’s release.
The menus are TBD as of 12/4/2020. We are planning a breakfast, lunch, and dinner/dessert meals each day. A total of 24 meals, drinks, and desserts. Return to this post for updates as the calendar gets closer to May 2021.

Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian
Alexei Shostakov was one of the Soviet Union’s most acclaimed test pilots whose heroism caught the attention of the KGB. They arranged for Shostakov to wed Natasha Romanoff, a top agent of the secret Red Room Academy, later known as the Black Widow.
