Updated: 11/30/2020 – Thanks to #VerizonLive the full 94th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is available to watch. If you missed the parade on Thanksgiving Day, you can still watch the entire parade at the end of this post.
The year 2020 is marching on with another serious wave of COVID-19 in the United States. As I am typing this post, CBS Evening News reported the United States hit 100,000+ coronavirus cases per day for the last two days. We wondered if the traditional Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade would be cancelled. To our surprise, Macy’s has announced the timeless tradition of the world-famous 94th Macy’s parade will continue. A Reel Cinema At Home is excited to share our family tradition of watching the parade safely from home.
No live audience on the streets of New York for coronavirus safety reasons. The parade has been reinvented by Macy’s. The reimagined parade will not travel down the streets of New York. Instead the parade will be filmed over the course of several days as a television-only event.
We love the idea of keeping the tradition of the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to allow Americans to have some feeling of normalcy. Likewise, we appreciate Macy’s effort to keep everyone safe during the second/third wave of coronavirus in the United States.
For the past many years (not telling you how old I am – just say I have gray hair), A Reel Cinema At Home has a family tradition of watching the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC. We love, love the Broadway performances, Rockettes, marching bands, balloons with the matching handlers’ costumes, the floats, and the cheerleaders. As super fans, we wake up early every Thanksgiving to power up the home theater projector so we can watch the parade live.
Broadway performances have been shut down since the beginning of the pandemic. Will Macy’s be able to give fans the same high energy Broadway performances they always have? If not, we truly understand. Safety FIRST!
Our family tradition includes watching the parade in our home theater. The quality picture from our projector and the booming sound from our Klipsch speakers, makes us feel like we have the perfect parade watching spot in the middle of Macy’s Herald Square on Broadway and 34th Street. We also tune every other television in our house to the NBC Macy’s parade. No matter where you sit to eat breakfast the parade is available to watch in our house.
Another tradition includes enjoying a Thanksgiving breakfast feast that requires elastic pants and a nap afterwards. Our 2020 Macy’s Parade Watching Party breakfast menu includes:
Pineapple Orange Champagne Mimosa
English Breakfast Tea with Lemon and Honey
French Vanilla Medium Roast Coffee
Southern-Style Buttermilk Biscuits and Gravy
Crispy Breakfast Potatoes with Peppers and Onions
Puffed Spinach, Tomato, Bacon, Goat Cheese, Egg Muffins
Maple Applewood Smoked Bacon
Fresh Fruit Platter
Reel Geeks Glazed Donuts
Vanilla Yogurt and Honey Granola Parfait
The 94th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade airs nationwide on NBC and Telemundo on Thursday, November 26, 2020 from 9:00 AM to Noon in all time zones. The TODAY Show’s Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker will host the telecast for NBC. Telemundo’s broadcast will be hosted by Adamari Lopez, Jessica Carrillo, Rodner Figueroa, and Nastassja Bolivar.
NBC Universal and Verizon will also stream the event on YouTube. The stream begins at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time on www.youtube.com/verizon, Twitter @Verizon, and Yahoo (also a Verizon Media property). Super fans can post a photo or video with #VerizonLive and #MacysParade on Twitter for a chance to be featured in the stream.
A Reel Cinema @ Home will be social distancing and staying within our immediate family to keep the ones we love safe. We ask all super fans of the Macy’s Parade to join us in planning a fun filled Thanksgiving morning by watching the spectacular 2020 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with your family.
Happy Thanksgiving and be grateful for all you have. The Macy’s Parade is a wonderful way to start the holiday season. #macysparade
